Abstract

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic liver condition that affects a large part of the adult population worldwide. It is characterized by fat accumulation in the liver and is closely related to metabolic syndrome (MetS) and diabetes mellitus (DM). The underlying pathophysiological process is complex, due to the interplay of different factors and the involvement of multiple systems. Hence, there is still no standardized treatment for its approach, however, different therapeutic strategies have been proposed. The treatment approach for NASH is multimodal and includes dietary interventions, physical exercise, and non-pharmacological approaches. However, it is not known exactly which of these strategies is the best option for these patients. The present narrative review aims to comparatively evaluate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapy in the treatment of NAFLD in adults.
