Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), family planning allows people to have the number of children they want and determine the interval between pregnancies. It is achieved through the application of contraceptive methods and the treatment of infertility. Objective: To identify the main family planning methods used by women in the parish of Ayapamba, Oro province, Ecuador. Materials and methods: Study with a quantitative approach of descriptive scope with retrospective temporality, the sample of this study consisted of 350 women between 15 and 35 years old who attended the Ayapamba Health Operational Unit during the months of January to December 2020 For the information gathering process, the family planning sheet (058) was used through a data collection sheet made by the authors and validated at the discretion of experts. Descriptive statistics were used through tables of frequencies and percentages through the statistical program SPSS version 15. Results: It was found that the most used methods were condoms with 29,7%, intra-uterine devices with 21,5% and to a lesser extent hormonal pills (13,8%). Conclusion: The rate of use of contraceptive methods in women from the rural community is acceptable, in the age range 30 to 35 years, while in women from 15 to 20 years it is low. On the other hand, although intra-uterine devices, condoms and hormonal pills are known, the use of these methods by women in this rural parish is limited.
