Nefrotoxicidad oculta: Efectos nocivos de ciertos fármacos de libre venta, de su interacción con otros fármacos o con preparados herbarios.
Resumen
Los medicamentos, aunque resultado de rigurosos procesos científicos, pueden generar efectos secundarios no detectados inicialmente. Entre los órganos más vulnerables se encuentra el riñón, debido a su papel en la filtración y eliminación de sustancias tóxicas. Los antiinflamatorios no esteroideos (AINEs) son un claro ejemplo de fármacos nefrotóxicos, cuyo uso prolongado o inadecuado puede causar nefritis intersticial aguda o crónica, e incluso insuficiencia renal irreversible. También antibióticos, anticonvulsivantes, protectores gástricos y otros medicamentos de uso común pueden provocar daño renal o reacciones alérgicas. La automedicación, práctica extendida durante la pandemia de COVID-19, incrementa estos riesgos al fomentar el uso sin supervisión médica. Asimismo, los productos naturales no están exentos de toxicidad ni de interacciones farmacológicas perjudiciales. Por ello, se enfatiza la importancia del control médico en la prescripción y la necesidad de regulaciones más estrictas para proteger la salud pública y prevenir el daño renal inducido por fármacos.
