Abstract
Introduction: The research is part of the routine activities of undergraduate students of medical sciences in the confrontation with COVID 19. Objective: to characterize the behavior of the students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences residing in Quemado de Guines in the confrontation with COVID-19 during the period March-August 2020. Material and method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in the months of March to August 2020, at the Martires 8 de Abril Polyclinic. 48 students of the Medical Sciences of the 129 assigned to the health area research, who constituted the study population of the research, were studied. The variables under study were: specialty, academic year, sources of information on COVID-19, level of information about the disease, emotional attitude, and student behaviors. Results: the main sources of information for students about COVID-19 were received by health professionals through training (100%) and by the mass media (100%). More than 60% of the students demonstrated an acceptable level of information. The emotional behavior was characterized by the fear of contagion in 100%, as well as the preventive measures of the use of the mask and the physical distancing between the students themselves and with the population. Conclusions: this research provided new knowledge about the behavior of the students of the Medical Sciences residing in Quemado de Guines in the face of the investigation in the confrontation with COVID-19.
