Resumen

Las enfermedades cardiovasculares son la principal causa de muerte mundial y están asociadas a factores conductuales y ambientales. La hipercolesterolemia familiar (HF) es un trastorno genético frecuente que eleva los niveles de LDL-C y aumenta significativamente el riesgo cardiovascular. Puede presentarse en forma homocigota o heterocigota, con severidad variable. Su fisiopatología se basa en la acumulación de LDL en la pared arterial, favoreciendo la aterosclerosis. Aunque el diagnóstico clínico es útil, presenta limitaciones, por lo que el análisis genético es clave por su alta especificidad. Esto permite identificar mutaciones, evaluar riesgo y establecer estrategias terapéuticas personalizadas orientadas a la prevención cardiovascular.
