Abstract

The health regulations for the certification of Health Establishments as Mother and Child Friendly (ESAMYN) have been implemented with the aim of reducing maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality through adequate and timely care for pregnant women, a humanized delivery, promotion, protection and support of breastfeeding. The objective of the study was to determine the application of the ESAMYN Regulation and its association in reducing the time of labor, during 2018-2019. It will be a case-control study. 338 clinical records of pregnant women who entered labor with a dilation of 4 to 5 cm were reviewed, women whose delivery was attended to by applying the ESAMYN regulations were identified as cases, and those with the conventional method were identified as controls. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 25 program and results were presented using personalized tables. 79% were between the ages of 20 and 39, 38.2% free union, 48.8% had a secondary level of education and 58% lived in urban areas; 66.9% were multiparous and 88.2% had sufficient prenatal controls (≥5 controls) and 50.3% underwent humanized deliveries. The level of application of the regulations in the study population was 100%; the average time of the beginning and end of labor applying the ESAMYN regulations showed a difference of approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes from the start of labor and 1 hour and 0 minutes with the end of conventional labor; there were no differences in the time of labor applying the ESAMYN standards when compared with conventional delivery care; All of the pregnant women to whom the regulations were applied had vaginal deliveries.
