Abstract

The epiretinal membrane is defined as a pathological fibrocellular tissue that occurs in the inner part of the retina. The clinical picture varies from small cellophane-like particles

that are asymptomatic, to the formation of a contractile and fibrotic membrane that causes monocular diplopia, blurred vision, metamorphopsia, loss of central vision and decreased visual acuity. The epiretinal membrane can be of idiopathic origin or secondary to retinal vascular diseases, retinal detachment and ocular inflammatory diseases. In this particular case, the patient did not have a relevant history, however, chronic blepharitis was evident. This pathology is diagnosed through clinical history and physical examination, in addition to complementary tests, among which the optical coherence tomography that was performed on the patient stands out, being very useful both in the diagnosis and in determining the treatment of the pathology. , which according to the clinical manifestations of the patient can be expectant or through vitrectomy, in this case the management was expectant since the patient did not present compromised visual acuity.
